My new band has been offered some gigs in Germany later in the year (no dates confirmed yet), but what we'll need is to add a few more "classic" rock/metal songs to our set for the occasion.

We'd like the covers to be instantly recognisable, but not necessarily the types of songs that every cover band and their brother do (no Ace of Spades, Enter Sadman, etc.)

So, could any resident German rock/metal fans give me some suggestions that they think will go down a storm in Germany?  :D

How about some Judas priest, anything off painkiller will do!
Other bands that come to mind for some classic cover songs,
Ozzy, Maiden, any of the classics really.

Well, a German friend of mine said:

"Ach, I don't think that you'll gonna find any significant difference when it comes to rock and metal classics, since especially the classic songs are quite universal.
Slayer, Metallica, Maiden, Slayer, Megadeth, Motörhead, Slayer or Slayer will always work, I think. Smile
If you can assume a more metal oriented audience, you could do some classics of Kreator or Sodom for instance.

Maybe it would be fun if you try a cover of something of the Toten Hosen or Die Ärzte. Assuming that your singer's German is maybe a bit rusty that would be either quite entertaining - or ridiculuos. A bit risky maybe."

But when I suggested some Scorpions he said:

"Uhm, I would think that over again, really.
Unless you're playing in front of a bunch of 40+ old, you know, Volvo driving teachers who think that Genesis really do rock, that is.
The reception of the Scorpions differs a bit in Germany and the rest of the world... "

But with Hof you could wear red swim trunks and a hair wig and behave like a dick and get away with it. May need platforms to get his height though LOL
And ya could travel in a black firebird with a swishing red bar on the front :)

Hey, I think there's no difference whatsoever.

Classics are everywhere the same, so if you just play some Wildecker Herzbubn, Heino and Dschingis Khan, everything will be fine :D

You could always dig out some Tankard records and try and figure them out... "Chemical Invasion" would go down well. ;)

heh heh, now we're talking - old school, love it!!!  That song $%&#'n rules!

Kreator - defo, how about Extreme Aggressions?

Nuclear Assault - maybe a bit more specialised but they were/are one of my faves from the thrash days.  'Equal Rights' would do it for me.

Testament - 'Over The Wall' is a classic (to me), can't go wrong there.
