pickup height question - but for P90 /neck/ pickup
« on: May 05, 2006, 09:06:28 AM »
for the bridge pickup its clear... set to around 2/3mm and adjust to taste.

normally i then adjust the neck pickup height to give a good volume balance with the bridge. usually the pole pieces are a bit further away from the strings than at the bridge.

this is all fine, but of course theres a problem.

the guitar in question has P90s and theres no overall pickup height adjustment, just for each pole. i need to add hard spacing between the pickup to the body, and i want to get this approximately correct for a good overall adjustment.

so now the question: how close to the strings would be a good starting place for the neck pickup?

perhaps someone could measure their guitar, or maybe has an idea anyway? i need something a bit more scientific than "a bit further away than the bridge pickup" ;)

obviously i should have measured this before i took the pickups off, but i didn't think of that

thanks alot for any suggestion! i dont want to play around pulling the strings on and off and trying different spacers.

you wouldn't use the meat knife on crusty bread but, equally, the serrated knife and straight edge knife aren't going to go through raw meat as quickly
