Tom...

Getting back onto topic. before you restring the guitar take the pick gard off one more time if you want to fix the "knobs 5mm of the body" problem.

Its actually quite simple.

Pull the knob off.

loosen the top nut on the pots' thread by the desired amount. 5mm in this case.

Tighten the bottom nut up to the new postion. Do up only finger tight at this stage.

Replace knob. Repeat above steps to either raise or lower the pot untill you reach the desired height.

Now just checking.... have the knobs always been raised off the deck or just since you rewired the guitar?

The pots only came with one nut for the top... I was thinkin about making spacers from something to make the pots shafts "shorter" from the top of the body.. theyve never been raised, I had mini pots before and I guess they had shorter shafts.. but these new cts ones seem a bit longer.

get another nut for the underside of the pick guard.

They usually have an upper nut, lower nut and a washer (star washer) for holding tension on the nuts. here's a picture of them.

this will give you adjustability with the pots.

Yeah it came with a star washer type thing, but only one  nut :( I'll have to have a look around my garage to see if we have anything lying around  that will fit, otherwise I'm gonna have to have high knobs until I can find some!

Looks good Tom. The strings being taken off  probably wont have caused any problems incidentally .All guitars, at one point in their "life" had no strings on them.

Yeah its been fine all of today after the strings settled in, theres still a bit of choking on the upper frets when I bend though so I dont really know what to do..
