Solar Fanned Fret pickup replacement?
« on: December 01, 2021, 03:28:27 PM »
Has anyone replaced the stock pickups in a Solar 7-string fanned fret? Thoughts on if they will fit and if so what are good replacement choices for tight and articulate metal?

Thanks!

I was curious, so I perused the Duncan forum a bit.  I didn't find much useful info.  I take it that you're looking for an angled pickup, so I'd contact BKP about doing that.

There was a claim on one of the Duncan forum threads that even the Custom Shop there doesn't do angled pickups.  I can't verify that.  I do know that they had an angled JB at one point.  No idea of the dimensions, other than it was for 6 string, and was model specific (forget the guitar brand/model).

Ask BKP.  They do slanted pickups but not to suit all guitars.  I know that they can't do the Schecter Reaper multiscale, for example.

I guess there are several pickups that will do what you want.  Black Dog, Emerald, Rebel Yell, Cold Sweat, Impulse, Aftermath, Painkiller ... it depends really on the characteristics of your guitar and the exact tone you are going for.

IMPULSES
COBRA-T
WAR PIGS
STOCKHOLM
COLD SWEATS
MIRACLE MAN

Emerald isn't suitable for metal, does the rock thing really well, but gets abrasive crunchy compressed with extra gain.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus
