Sounds great! Like a mix of AC/DC and Deep Purple. The Ric bass sounds very cool in this clip. Excellent clip!
Funny you should say that since, though it wasn't by design, the way the bass sort of sits there mostly hammering on a single note gives me a kind of "intro to SotW or Highway Star" vibe. Roger Glover used to play Ricks, so I always have that image in my head :)
A great track, i bet it sounds ever better live!!
Eh, the band can be a bit wobbly live -- and our drummer usually launches us into this song way too fast ;) -- but when it works, it works! I remember a charity gig last autumn where the live sound was handled by an ex-Budgie guy and, for a miracle, we could all hear each other on stage even without a soundcheck. We were barreling through this track at least half-again the speed on the demo here and I glanced over to side of the stage (such as it was) and saw this skinhead guy
completely apesh!t headbanging along for all he was worth. One of those iconic sights that stays with you, and one of the better compliments we've gotten, I think!
Anyway, though my playing is not really fabulous on this track (err, nor is it ever! ;)), I really like how easy it feels to get a good tone out of the BKPs even with hastily dialled-in GarageBand amp sims. It's a big encouragement to play/write/record more frequently, which makes the pups
well worth the investment! :)
(I now increasingly have it in mind try to find some unpotted Rickenbacker bass pups that I can get BKP to rewind for me. Sometime later in the year or early next year, maybe. I think I'll need to get the Rick pups from the States, so I'll need to wait till I'm over there ....)
