Best Pickup Choice For Metal/Djent - Drop C & F
« on: August 13, 2023, 02:18:07 PM »
I'm about to purchase a Solar 29-inch baritone designed for low metal tunings (with Evertune Bridge).
I'm planning to play in drop C and drop F tunings for metal and djent, respectively.
Does anyone have any advice on what pickup would be a good all-rounder for this?
I see the Aftermaths get a lot of attention as a good choice.
But some thoughts would be appreciated from people more experienced than me.
Thanks to anyone who replies.

Longer scale instruments tend to have a really strong upper midrange, so I generally recommend pickups which have either a flat or slightly scooped midrange, or they have a lot of weight piled into the lower mids to help balance things out. The Impulse is great for this type of application, as is the ceramic version of the Warpig. Both of those have pretty flat mids. If you want instead to have a really strong midrange, then the Ragnarok is a great option to bolster those lower mid frequencies to give you a good amount of grind, without being harsh.

That does make a lot of sense.
I'm a fan of Northlane and have heard Josh Smith's signature Impulse pickup demos, and it sounds awesome, really tight in the bottom end, with real clarity in the mids and highs - so maybe that's the one to go for.

Thanks for the response
