For those not in the know, this is a very tiny amp (7"x5"x4" or roughly 18x13x10cm plus three canned 12AX7's sticking out of the top). I have the 'green' model that, for all intents and purposes, is a miniature JCM/JMP plexi. There is a 'red' model that has the same form factor but has two 'channels' (clean and higher gain).
Before I go any further, if you want a great demo of this amp, search for Pete Thorn's video on youtube (he does a fantastic job of showing all the ins and outs).
This little thing sounds as advertised, like a tiny classic-era Marshall that, at the maximum acceptable volume (more on that shortly) will annoy the cr@p out of your significant other/children or neighbors if you live in an apartment but shouldn't cause any permanent hearing loss lol.
What does it do well? It will drive any cabinet between 4 and 16ohms (which should cover almost every suitable guitar cab in existence) sounding just like many, many classic rock/blues albums (you can use it as a preamp into a power-amp and it sounds just as glorious only louder). It's just as touch/volume sensitive as you'd like it to be. It's way more punchy than you'd ever expect from something so tiny. Plus, it's cheap ($450 plus shipping in the US).
Where does it fall short? Volume on its own of course (it's only 1/2 of a watt). The sweet spot seems to be both preamp and master volumes (gain 1 and 2 respectively) at roughly 2 o'clock and the EQ set to taste (I like the treble dimed and the bass rolled back to about 30%) anything higher than that and it starts to get real squishy. THE WAIT. I waited a solid 30 days after ordering before it shipped (David does warn you about this, but doesn't give you a specific wait time).
I like it as a preamp, I like it driving a cab, I think I'll play with it for a while and work on my blues chops! Your mileage may vary, have a great one!
