Which single coils to go with Polymath in HSS
« on: May 12, 2024, 06:01:29 PM »
I have an Alder Suhr with ebony board, SS frets.

The Thornbucker II in it is a a bit harsh in the top and and lacking bottom end for me. It nails the Brown sound (it really does) but I play in a Tina Turner tribute band!!!

My favourite humbuckers have been the Polymath, SD Perpetual Burn and Dimarzio MoJoe, all for different reasons.

I've got another polymath off ebay for a decent price to I'm looking for single coils to go with it. I love the 63 veneers, wasnt so keen on the slow hands which seems to have too much mids to get what I feel is the quintessential strat sound.
I'm after something with enough bottom end and rounder top to warm up what seems to be a very bright guitar, definitely vintage character but maybe a bit more to match closer to the polymath. Any tips would help!!

Thanks

Irish Tours could be a really good shout for that. Not a million miles away from the overall feel of the '63s , but a bit more rounded in the highs and broader in the lower mids
