I am finalizing an Aristides 070 build and I am still torn between the impulse and juggernaut pickups. The 070 will probably be tuned down to around drop F#/G/G#, so pretty low. I tried some bareknuckle pickups and I guess I'll like most of them but never really had a chance to test the impulse and juggernauts. I was listening to many samples and videos of both pickups and I really love the sound of both from hearing other people play them. Reading the specs and also from samples I heard I know the juggernauts have more pronounced mids and sound a bit more agressive compared to the rather flat impulse pickups. I still think the impulse have a very nice rounded sound to them over the whole frequency spectrum but probably less chunk and "djent-capabilities". If I am not mistaken I guess the impulse would probably be a bit better suited for the really low drop F# tunings to stay clear.
So I like the chunky agressive sound of the juggernauts, but I fear they'll sound a bit muddier compared to the impulse at the low end. At the moment I really love the tone from Mike Stringer, I think he uses m7's and fishmans..
What would you guys recommend between juggs and impulse, or even something else?
