The options certainly available.
Overwinding the miracle man (by about 5k) brought out more highs and compressed the sound more, but it retained clarity. It doesnt sound quite as big (not far off at all) but its more staurated and still as articulate, which is what I wanted. The output to my ears is maybe half the difference between a miracle man and a pig, but above the pig rather than below. Its close.
What I asked for was something like "Pig output or more if it can be done without compromising the tone", but left exactly how hot, in terms of number of k DC to Tims judgement, rather than pick a number out of the air. I recommend you do that if you want a more powerfull pickup. There are disadvantages to overwinding that work against the heaviness, and i dont think its easy to quatify where that happens, it must just be experience in what wind sounds like what. Leave it to the experts.
That said, the pig is as hot a pickup as you could want. I play some very heavy stuff and the stock warpig is pretty much my benchmark pickup in terms of best tone + high gain (custom double screw pole 23k MM cant really count as a benchmark!).
