I believe you always should find the one that matches your cab's ohm'ag. Some of them can be switched, I believe.

You have to have one that will match an output from your amp...

...or higher - you can use the 16ohm version with any lower ohmage cab/head combo, but for best results THD recommends using the correct ohmage. I haven't noticed any real difference between running an 8 or 16ohm on mine, however.
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away...

i was confused about that too. i don't understand why when yu add ohms together they don't add... i.e. why isn't two 8ohm speakers in a cabinet a 16ohm cabinet?

Series wiring Impedance = Speaker rating+ Speaker rating

Parallel wiiring 1/I= 1/spaker rating+1/speaker rating

So for speakers in series just simply add the ohms, and for parallel its the reciprocal etc.

Only if you can seperate the wire from the 'head' portion and the loudspeaker driver.

The wiring goes Amp out > Hot plate > Loudspeaker(s)

And if i am not mistaken a 2-1 mismatch is ok.

ie. you have 8ohm hotplate you can use it with 16ohm cab/amp or 4ohm amp/cab.

I queried ohmage mismatch with THD. They said the internal circuit is optimised tonally for the stated ohmage but the Hotplate would work with speakers of the next rating but the tone may not be quite as good. You must set your amp to the correct speaker ohmage NOT the hotplate ohmage. i.e. I have an 8 ohm hotplate which I can use with a Marshall feeding 4 ohms of speakers - the Marshall must be set to 4 ohms not 8.
