15 Year Old Kids Score Hughes & Kettner Endorsement

Not slagging them off, just a bit 'whoah'

when I was 15 I was playing Valvestate or a Spanish Classical!

Quote
British newcomers choose Hughes & Kettner

Four young chaps from the south of London calling themselves “The Flaming Monkeys”, none of them older than 15, are injecting some fresh blood into the punk music scene. In addition to its literal sense, their name also suggests “rabble-rousers.” We all know Internet flamers who can turn a peace-loving UseNet forum into a wasps’ nest just by dropping a few choice insults. The juvenile quartet has in fact referred to themselves as “four irritating little hooligans,” making clear that getting on your nerves is part of their intention.

But beyond their punk attitude, flavored as it is with a good portion of British humor, you may find that something else about the Flaming Monkeys could very well make them get under your skin—their talent! And of that they possess a boatload. The four young men are currently enjoying immense popularity in the UK, with their songs in heavy rotation on the radio, while they conquer one British TV show and live stage after another. Just recently these newcomers rocked an audience of 5,000 adoring fans at Brixton Academy.

At Hughes & Kettner we are especially pleased that guitarist Ben Allison, in a country with no short supply of rock guitar amplifiers, has selected a Hughes & Kettner Trilogy stack as his weapon of choice, and bassist bandmate Max McNally has chosen a likewise made-in-Germany Hughes & Kettner Quantum 600 bass amp head in combination with H&K QS 210 Pro and QS 115 Pro cabs, giving the young punks plenty of pummeling power in an easily transportable package.

Of course, the lads can also be found on the web. On their site www.theflamingmonkeys.com you can get a good impression of what these likeable chaps are all about, with several songs, radio interviews and TV clips. (By the way, the rumor that these four hooligans wanted to compose a song especially for the 80th birthday of the queen is absolutely unconfirmed….)

Fair play to them...the jammy bar-stewards!

hmmm, you might find that funny, but when I was 16 I bought a Hughes & Kettner. Must have been one of their first models though and H&K wasn't so special where I come from (Germany:)

You wanna see me envious you gotta look at THIS guy who is 14, plays a LesPaul and is being hugged by Brian May and Jimmy Page !!

I am sure that one of the lads from this band has appeared on the forum as I remember a link to their web site some while ago. Good luck to them I say. they certainly have mastered the pout. Better this than some Westlife, Boyzone, Blue clones.

Well, maybe he can tell me if the Trilogy is any good? I'm intrigued by them, although I don't dig the overall 'vibe' with the flashy lights and that...

It's funnny though, that they have immense popularity. I don't own a radio so I never heard of them until I was searching the net for amps...musically, apart from the new Tool album and a few other things, I'm stuck somewhere in 1950's-70s :P

Ok - that would be me
I do work for Chris and he plays Bare Knuckles (which he pays for)

He has a Warpig in one guitar and a Nailbomb and two Mothers milks in another.

He's dead keen on a lot of bands and I seem to run into him at gigs such as Rammstein etc.

They have a lot happening for such a young band, and they do work hard for it too - they play a lot of local "battle of the bands" type things and have won a few against bands of all ages.

We have a few good young bands here in the Croydon area - helped by the fact we have some good rehearsal studios too.

A lot of kids are as sick and tired of the boyband/girlband/ Pop idol rubbish  as we grown ups are.

Green Day and the like have been a saving grace for a lot of the kids!!

I think it is good as long as "corporate interests" don't spoil what to this point had been pretty organic and based on their own enthusiasm

oh yeah, fair play to them (although I looked in the mirror and my eyes were turning slightly green)

Don't really like 'punk' anymore though, the word doesn't mean what it used to mean.

I'm with you there Willo - punk means freedom of expression to me but now it's all about conforming to the image deemed fashionable at any given moment.  I thought that bands like Blink182 and The Offspring were bad enough but now we have these 'post punk' bands that are SO watered down it's just silly.  Oh, and remember to brush your slide-partening over one eye emo-boys (lol)

the early records (xnay, smash, ignition) are the worthwhile ones. everything else sucks completely.

green day, practicaly everything up to Warning (i havent heard american idiot as a whole yet)

thats the good stuff. has catchy melodies and cool hooks. it's great for kids 15 and so. i listen back to it from time to time, its ok =)

i dont listen to todays hip, or post- anything, or pretty much anything that has -core- in the name.. save maybe inflames from time to time, cos its a joke for the most part.

blink182 are a pop band

A lot of people talk about real punk bands and they mean hardcore bands like Black Flag, Minor Threat, Misfits, or they mean early punk bands like the Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, etc.

I'd describe The Offspring as more of a punk/pop mix, but there's no such category in HMV.     Hey, even The Police were described as a punk act when they hit the scene.  So were The Clash.

yeah, I love the london stuff in the 70's, but also the LA stuff from the 80s like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Wierdos and so on. That's what I like. I think the thing that really, more than anything, pisses me off, is the over-emphasised American Jock voice thing that you hear in your Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy bla bla bla...and even worse, the british kids are copying it!
