series, parallel, split...
« on: May 17, 2006, 12:33:37 PM »
Hi,

I was wondering if it is worth adding the option to have, for example, the neck humbucker in single coil mode or parallel?

My guitar has 2 Humbuckers and a 5-way switch. So I already get split sounds but always in combination with another coil.

Are the 'one Hum split' and 'one hum parallel' sounds worth adding?
Or are they very simillar to split combinations you get with a 5-way switch?

well, parallel definitely sounds a bit different. kind of thinner, less power, but still sounds like a 'bucker (as opposed to a single coil).

Is it worth adding? depends, lol. On whether you'd use it, and also whether you'd use it enough to warrant having more switches which might make it more awkward to select your "normal" pickup settings...

what I'm actually curious about is:
Is the sound from a split humbucker (neck) alone different than the sound of, say, one coil of the neck Hum parallel to one coil of the bridge Hum?

I mean different enough?
Or are they so similar, that it is not worth adding...

yes,  if you have one coil of the neck in parallel to one coil of the bridge it will sound WAY different than just one coil from the neck by itself.  I have a warpig bridge that i can split.  It is nice to have but just reminds me how much more I like buckers.
Also you will get more feedback from the single neck split....
