Help with guitar recording on PC

Hey, I'm wanting to record my guitar through my PC and I get get it to work through the mic port on my soundcard but I need some sort of decent program for recording, layering recordings, etc. Does anyone know of any programs?

Also, something to create drum beats would also be cool. At the moment I don't really know what to look for.

Audacity is a great free recording program, very easy to use, just google Audacity and you will find it :)

As for drums, I use guitar pro which isnt too hard to program once you get used to it.

Hammerhead is also an option for drums - its easier to use but not as versatile or good quality as other sofware. Its designed for dance beats, but the downloadable acoustic kit isnt too bad.

Thanks ill try it out anyway. One of my friends also has a copy of Reason which has a good drum machine although its a bit limited i think.

Any other drum programs out there?

Try leafdrums, its free and easy to use, only has basic midi sounds but i got a sample cd called absolute drums, try searching for that, its about £50 if i remember right, but its about 4-6 drum kits that have been studio recorded, some great sounds in there
