heya theres a pic attatched of my floyd rose. i tell you though what a son of a bitch they are! ive got to get better managing one quick . how do you restring them my old teacher used to for me. now he does not teach me i had to pay 30 quid to have it set up last time and cannot afford this everytime ! also stayng in tune can be an issue i guess my questions are

are all floyd roses a bit of hard work but soo worth it as mine has proven

and can someone point me to a book or webpage wich will aid my general maintainence of it? cheers

There's a lot of great info on www.jemsite.com. Also, for general Floyd Rose tips, there is some great vintage info available at www.vintagekramer.com. I find that the principles involved in using an OFR and Edge or Lo Pro are essentially the same, just that some float parallel to the guitar's body, and some of them at a slight forward-dipping angle.

It's better to set the trem up so that you have the action you want, and then tweak the angle of the bridge, not vice versa.

If you are just sticking to the same tuning and strings then they are a piece of cake!

Just undo the bolts on the nut and start turning the tuner for the first string to take away the tension.

Now follow that string down to the bridge, its sitting on a piece of metal, thats called the saddle, now at the back the is a allen key bolt going into it, thats pressing up against the string and keeping it in there.

Simply undo that and pull the string out, grab a new string and chop the ball end off, chuck it back into the saddle and tighten, you don't need to put loads of strength into tightening it or else you might break it.

Now that the string is in the saddle and secured wrap the other end around the tuner peg and tension it up.

Continue doing this for each string until you have finished, then get it in tune, tighten the bolts down on the nut and use the fine tuners on the trem to correct any strings that are out of tune.

the main problem is the awkward whammy bar it does not stay up it always falls back down it has no lock you see

I've heard that if you take a spring from a pen and drop it in that hole, then the bar will stay put.

Ibanez arms have two 'rings' that they use as gaskets for the arm tension. When they get worn down, all you have to do is replace em!!

The arms have two nylon bushings that get worn down
Replace these (and they have to be put on the right way up as well) and you should be fine
If anything else moves or is loose - have it looked at unless you know what you are doing.

Unless you are changing the tuning you use or gauge/make of string you shouldn't have many problems

I would suggest changing one string at a time and getting it fully in tune and then moving onto the next whilst all the strings are at the right tuning
trhis will keep it simpler and stop you tearing your hair out

that to me looks like an Edge Pro III or Pro Edge II which is the korean version of the Edge Pro (the new version of the Lo-Pro Edge).

Could have something to do with stability, although I could be wrong.

replacing the nylon bushings will work for keeping the trem arm stiffer, I must admit I do love Ibanez Floyds i've been using Ibanez guitars for about 7 years exclusively until recently when I moved across to the dreaded fender haha but still got a warm spot for the Ibanez ;)

An as update re the loose arm, if you have some PTFE (teflon) tape which you can get cheap from B&Q you can take of the plastic rings, wrap a piece of tape (or two) around the bar and put the rings back on. Voila, a tighter arm and no need to get new rings.
