Here is how I got several jobs, and to do this you have to be damn sure you can pull it off.
"Look. I need a job, and you need some help I know. I'll work for you a day, and if you don't like my work, then you don't owe me, but I bet you I will out work most of your existing crew...today and everyday. Try me."
I have used that several times, and I started doing it at your age basically. I went from pee-on laborer to Carpenter Elite in just a few years, and now I can look at any boss/contractor and tell them that, "My truck doesn't start up for less than $12 an hour, and damn sure won't move unless I have that pay for a minimum of 40 hours a week.", and I get the pay and the work due to my references. (Remember what I said about them? Look at the previous post or two of mine.

) I bust ass and do my job, period.
Cop that attitude, back it up, and bust your ass, and NEVER forget to learn from anyone. It will be hard, and it won't be easy, but you can do it. I did.
