Went to the gig at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday night and all I can say was wow! What a spectacular show!
For those of you not in the know, Dweezil has assembled a band of stunning musicians to play a series of shows paying (and playing) tribute to the music of late, great Frank Zappa. Added to the Royal Albert Hall show was an appearance by non other than Steve Vai, who did his best to steal the show on the track 'Zombie Wolf', the full armory of stunt guitar histrionics was on display.
But Vai did not steal the show, that distinction fell to Frank himself. Frank may be gone, but as Dweezil land the band played the rythym, a screen descended from high above the stage and a film with the isolated lead track of Frank playing the melody line ensued. Fitting that even from beyond the grave, Frank, through his son Dweezil, left the audience of the Royal Albert Hall spellbound.
At the end of the show Dweezil must have shook every hand presented to him, I've not washed mine since! A fantastic show, this one will take something very, very special to top.
