Can i plug guitars in both inputs of my JCM800?
« on: June 04, 2006, 11:45:21 PM »
If my friend comes over and wants to play the JCM while i do, can i let him plug in the other input?
or maybe by myself i could split the signal in two, with one half going through my mesa preamp and into the low sensitivity, and one half straight into the high sensitivity...?
Will this damage the amp? If not do you think the marshall/mesa thing is a good idea? could i get some nice sounds? and also how could i split my signal?

hmmm

its 1 or the other me thinks... although Bainzy will know.. hes the amp man :)

To split the signal you'd need some sort of a\b box? i dunno.

Solution: make him buy his own amp ;)

you can't plug into both inputs at the same time on the JCM800s - the way the jacks are wired will not allow this.

You could ABY you both into it, so you're both able to play in one input at the same time...

You may be able to get one cheaper than that elsewhere...and i don't know how tone would be affected, but it would probably be negatively if at all

A good box will cost the same as a cheap practice amp!
Add the second amp. No reason for you BOTH to sound like ass.

^ True, but then...if one of them is through the practice amp, they're not gonna get heard - defeats the whole object really

Such is the sacrifice to be made. ;)

Seriously, tho ... I disagree with that statement. The other dude won't be heard if you're playing at d!ck levels, but otherwise, you can make it work.
Sharing instruments into an amp is  BAD IDEA.

If you have a stereo cab, you can plug the 800 into one side and the practice amp's output into the other.

Don't do this. It will sound horrible, and most amps/heads will not even allow it. Bad idea, and I agree...make him balls up and buy his own amp.
