I just got Joe's new Super Collossal, and I think it is one of his best.  Any Joe fans out there!?  Some of the tones he gets on this album are unreal.  Wondering what he could do with some BKs.  Anyway, I have only ever owned Joe's first three albums.  I would appreciate some hardcore fans to suggest which  album to get next of  all those I missed between first three and Collossal?  Maybe a top three if you will.  Thanks, Lifted

joe is amazing. haven't heard his new album yet.

which three albums do you have? not of this earth, surfin and flying in a blue dream?

dreaming #11? (not really an album, but you may or may not count it as one).

anyway, the 4 best are NOTE, SWTA, FIABD, and the extremist in my opinion. Crystal planet is cool too.

dreaming is cool for "the crush of love" (excellent song) but that's pretty much all there is on that one, bar a few live versions.

if you don't have them, I'd get the extremist, and crystal planet.

but yeah, tell us what you have first, lol, as your idea of his first three albums may be different to mine.

I have Surfing . . ., The Extremist, and Strange Beautiful Music, plus the G3 concerts.  I like The Extremist best, though I don't listen to Satch these days.

I think his tone from Surfing . . . has some of the worst lead guitar tones ever recorded.  It's buzzy and muffled at the same time.  But there are some cool songs on it.  Always . . . is one of my favourite guitar instrumentals ever.

I love "Until we say goodbye" off the Engines of Creation album, which features a load of weird/cr@p techno-type songs which arent amazing.

I have listened to some of the 30 sec clips of Crystal Planet and Extremist and do think those will be my next choice.  Do give it another listen Msteve,  The only one I skip is the Title track,  ... a wee bit cheesey, but it keeps getting better abot the middle of the album towards the end.  the crowd chant on last track isn't my favorite, but a fun"live" track.   Thank you all for your opinions.  Lifted

Joe Satriani is my main inspiration.
He's so suave, cool, talented and fun...
I prefer his older stuff though.

I love the Extremist, it's my absolute fave but Super Colossal is such a return to form.

I've bought just about everything he's released but after the Extremist it just seemed to be diminishing returns. I almost gave up.

Super Colossal has snapped me back into the fold - Just good fun + virtuosity and some great out-side tones.

I've been playing it loads.

Just played Super Colossal for what seems to be the 500th time; never gets old! I'm a big Satch fan, and if you've never seen him live (NOT with G3, but the whole 2-3hr shebang) you are MISSING OUT. I don't care what you think of his music, Satch's live show will you with your jaw on the FLOOR and GOOSEBUMPS up and down your arm.

It's far easier to be an armchair quarterback with the albums, but live ... there's no denying the man's gift.

agreed wholeheartedly, Ben. I saw him live a couple of years ago in Dublin, it was awesome. The live tone just cut through you like a knife (in a good way!). And crushing day...

I nominate for treasurer of the "dave_mc '80's fan club"

I 'm already sending my membership payment.

... back on topic "always with me, Always with you" showed to me '80's shredding can be soulful and definately was one of my inspirations to pick up the guitar.
