Well, my local search for a power supply for my M-Audio Black Box has proved fruitless :(.

My last stop was a guitar store in my nearest city of Salisbury today.
Now, awhile back I found a store online in said city which had some pretty cool guitars (for the ####!!ry bumpkins here lol) PRS,Les Paul etc. Anyway, the internet site dissapeared and I thought all was lost.
So, today, I find the store, which is under new ownership and changed name. It has apparently changed some but they still have some interesting gear, PRS Custom, Les Pauls, Angus Young Sig SG etc.
My REAL interest was they were an Engl stockist, but no more :(

But WAIT, whats that I see?

Indeed, a used (3 week old) Screamer Head and Engl 2x12 slant cab. Price was fair to very good, so, home she came :) :) :)!!!!!!!!!

Full review is abit awkward at this time due to my family troubles.
But suffice to say, a 100w Blackmore would (in retrospect) been EXTREME overkill! This 50w head is LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The cleans are great and the gain, well, it's an Engl, nuff said.

Also, the guy has a good footswiitch that works with it, forgot make, alot cheaper than an Engl which I will pick up next week (£20).

Other thing that happened, I asked about teachers (as want to continue my lessons when finally settled here). Apparently, although I knew Alan the singer better, Andy Boulton of 'Tokyo Blade' and 'Shogun' is still around (thought he moved up North) and teaches not 2 miles from me!! Course, we may not gel, but still cool as he has GREAT stories.

Much happier about my musical path here now and confident a jam/band will not be hard to find.

Just all in all a Little Ray of Sunshine in my otherwise pretty BLACK situation right now.

Nick

P.S. my mum has dial-up SHEESH and I cannot get the Engl Screamer 50w head manual (Engl site in pdf) to download). Anyone wanna do me a favor and dwnld it for me and email me it (worth a try). Thanks!

Thanks Sam,
the head has some 'tricks up it's sleeve', hence the manual.

Will get a power supply eventually, just not priority.
Only saw the Engl by chance (came in thursday, and at the price would NOT be there long) so jumped on it. Much more sensible for time being. By Gawd 50 tube watts is DAMN loud! LOL

Now, Mr.T.Mills, wheres me bloody Warpigs??????????? :)

I'm interested in saving up for the Screamer after hearing Hunters clips, do you reckon it can do Slash-style overdrive as well as the heavy metal stuff?

Woo!

Welcome to the ENGL club Nick matey!!

Screamer is a top amp! I tame mine using a Weber Mass power attenuator (sometimes... its sounds great just turned down though!)

Tom, it would definitely nail a slash type tone.. stick it on the gain channel with out the 'heavy lead' button pressed and there it is.

If you ONLY wanted to go as heavy as that Slash style JCM Marshall sound but didnt want to buy a Marshall.. the Thunder would nail it for you 8)

Screamer is great, more versatile than the Fireball i had, but still gobsmackingly gainy and face melting :D

The best thing about the screamer is that it actually does still sound amazing turned to reasonable volume levels...in contrast with the Recto i tried that sounded shite at a volume of less than 5.

Well done in finding that screamer nick, i agree very much that it is loud - my friend (who has only played solid state) laughed at me when i said i bought a 50 watt amp...he was all "how are you gonna gig with only 50 watts of power?????" - I then proceeded to turn it up and relieve him of his hearing

Haha yeah, it's good...especially when all the other local bands play MG's or DSL's, and i just totally own them with tone :P Just need some BK's now and then they'll all know what guitar should sound like - Nailbombs through a cranked ENGL would slay a man at 50 paces
