I took the chassis out of my AVT100 the other day just to have a look.
You just have to undo the four large crosshead bolts on the top of the amp, and carefully slide the chassis out backwards. Make sure it's off and you disconnect the speaker. It doesn't do it any damage whatsoever.
Now I'm in risky territory here, but as I understand it solid state amps are way less dangerous to poke about in than valve - I did a lot of poking about in mine with no probs. But don't quote me on that, obviously

Just don't touch anything you don't have to just to be sure.
If I was in your situation there's no way I'd pay a tech to do the job, 'cos you'd be paying him to undo some bolts, slide the chassis out, push the plug back through, slide the chassis back in again and bolt it back up.
