JCM800's

hey you horrible lot. I've been thinking of getting rid of my 7 string, i think that i just don't get on with 7 strings anymore. So i've been thinking of looking for some one that will trade their jcm800 for my 7 string.

Now, i've played through Tim's Zakk Wylde heads (twice) and both times i've loved the tone. Very damn heavy but can sound sweet when rolling the volume back. The zakk wylde heads are different however because they use 6550 power tubes which i think gives a more aggressive sound. How does the stock JCM800 sound?

I no longer play in Malicious any more, so aiming for a modern metal tone is no longer a goal. although i get great tone from my MP-1 preamp, having a JCM800 would just be a nice addition to my 'tone locker'  :D  any views welcome.

Swap the 7 string for the JCM800, then I'll take that off your hands for a fiver and a curly wurly/other chocolate snack of your choice  :P

I've owned a few JCM800's one 2203 and two twin channel one, and there is a lot of truth to the fact the single channel ones sound better, the ZW signature head is quite damn nice played one of those and I thought it sounded pretty damn similar to the stock 2203 maybe just a bit "bigger" that might be the other tubes though..

eitherway u cant be going wrong with a JCM800! :) probably the only marshall I rate.

I've played a few reissue JCM 800s and none of them sounded very good.  Very dark, cold and fizzy sounding.... almost as if they were broken in some way.  However I would bet that a proper bias would improve them significantly as I imagine they have a typical Marshall cold bias job for the past however many years

Oh yes there is truth to the single channel 800s sounding better, without a doubt.  And there is truth to the vertical input jcm 800s sounding better as well.

The dual channel jcm 800s make the early jcm 900s (by far the thinnest of the jcm 900 series) sound really meaty!

7 string for JCM 800?  Done, just see if you can track down an early 80s vertical input JCM 800 instead of the reissue.
