Ino there was a big post on this before but i cudnt find it so here we go again...

Now...What possible benefits are there of upgrading Floyd rose style trems.

Ive been thinking of gettin an Ibanez edge pro for a while now but am still unsure whether the upgrade will be worth it from my Maverick liscensed one.

Im not realy sure whether the Maverick one is good as its the first floyd rose type trem guitar ive ever used...how could I tell?

Does it stay in tune? does it feel smooth? How's the tone transfer? Are you actually having any problems with it, or yu just wanting to spend spare change? :P

lol...actualy, a new trem would partly be just a way of emptying my pockets. Im gonna be getting a set of BKP's and thought I might aswell upgrade the trem too...

As far as the trem it self, after about an hour or two of pretty heavy the top 3 strings sometimes go slightly out...but then after a bit more playing, they sometimes go back in tune :?
As far as smoothness goes, it seems to be quite smooth. The springs however creak alot (despite the appliance of lots of lubricant). This kind of makes it feel less smooth if you get me.

Not realy sure how I could gage the tone transfer?

Usually the Maverick trems are ok
You can swap to an Ibanez trem but may need to have the body cut to accomodate.

I'm not sure if yoiu wouldn't be better with a Lo - Pro edge rather thaan the Edge Pro though.- certainly in terms of fitting it in.

However you might just want to get better quality springs
I recommend the Schaller ones as used by Floyd Rose - will set you back under a tenner for the parts

Cheers...routing the bod isnt realy a problem as my guitar teaher is a dab hand.

With something like an edge por/ lo-pro, wouldf there be a noticable improvement in tuning preformance?

I just feel that the Lo Pro is more responsive than the Edge Pro
The Edge Pro is still a bit unproven and some folks like it because you dont cut the ball ends off the strings, but I have used the Lo Pro Edge so long that I know it's characteristics.

Right, the Lo pro's also a low profile trem isnt it?

Is that all down to tast? (I havnt had much experience with threms...)

^ the feel is pretty much down to taste. the unproven bit is due to the fact that the lo-pro has been around from the early 90's, and the edge even earlier- and many are still in tip-top shape since then. The edge pro has only been around for a few years, so people don't know how it'll do over time. Doesn't help that they did away with the locking studs to save 50c per trem...

^ nah, the bit that the knife edges of the trem rest against- basically, the two studs/post that the trem sit on- you know, the bit you use to raise the height/action.
