I played one ages ago when I was trying out amps, I wish I got it really, as I think I read somewhere they are rare-ish?

I wouldn't say they're rare in a collectable way, I just don't think they really caught on when Marshall released them.

If I remember correctly they're along the same lines as the JTM30/JTM60 amps that Marshall made but without the 'legendary' problems that those amps usually suffer from.

I'd say it is yeah :) But it all depends on the sound you want. Going from memory, they don't have all that much gain available from them, so if that's a problem for you then it may be worth you looking into a different amp :)

They're the same as the JTM series that I used to own, except they're black not the beige colour of the JTMs.  As far as I'm aware, the electrics are the same as the JTMs?  I don't think they changed them at all.

If you're using it at home and want a genuine tube sound at decent volume levels they're great.  If you ever want to crank it, buy something else.  My JTM was useless when it was fully cooking - the tone went mushy and it wasn't happy at all.  Not what you expect from a Marshall tube amp.

well, it's not for me, it's a mate who's just startin a band-mainly indie stuff so probs fairly low gain, and it's £400 for the head and a 4x10.

That's a decent price for what it is I guess, but I paid £435 for a Laney GH50L and Marshall 1960A 4x12 cab which I think is much better value for money.

I guess your mate needs to try it out and see what he thinks.  It would probably be OK for low gain, medium volume gigs.

the 600's were an odd one, we've got one at music college in the studio and it's not a bad piece of kit really, the cleans are nice the distortion is heading towards the jcm2000 kind of terratory if i remember rightly.

900MkIII's are still one my favourite marshalls that u can pick up relatively cheap.

no JCM800 2203 though ;)

That's right.  They aren't too common because I haven't seen one since I was about 10 years old, 15 years ago!

I had the JTM60 1x12 combo, it was 'alright' - reliability is bad, the OT on mine blew with the amp running on '5' (where it sounded best).  I have heard this same problem from other people too.

I would stay away from them - get a 2204 or 2203 in the combo version.

Output Transformer - a known weakspot on these amps.  They're expensive to replace (£75+ for the part and fitting).
