I've heard most of the clips including tim's nailbomb, I've been practicing this technique for a few weeks now and my current pickups (EMG's) are not cutting it for me unless I play through a Mesa boogie Dual Rectifier or similar high gain tube amp.

The Nailbomb and Miracle Man will totally open up your guitar sound, you will find harmonics that you couldnt acheive before. EMG's to my ears are not very rich in harmonics and have quite a flat sound,BK's sound more alive. That was my experience anyway. I would say a Nailbomb may suit.

I reckon that the amp will make more difference than the pickups for this, I could probably do it with my Mules through a high gain amp.

Its not just about gain, you need to have the harmonics there in the first place to amplify them. Nailbombs have very prominent harmonics and from my experince jump out from any amp clean or overdriven.

I'm thinking about getting BKP's MM or NB in the bridge and getting a Cold Sweat in the Neck Position.  So far I've been liking the MM the best over the NB.

If your into harmonics like Dimbag was doing in that video, I'd go for the MM. I have one and there easy to get with that pickup.

Wow I never really realized how creative dimbag was until I saw him do those harmonics live.

Another vote for the MM - just watched that clip & had a go at it on my Warmoth strat.  I can catch just about any harmonic I want with the MM bridge, even at low volumes & mid gain type sounds.

Can't make you a clip right now as I don't have the technology to get stuff from my recorder to the PC - an upgrade to my setup is going to happen sometime this year

Tha nailbomb would probably do a pretty good job too, but mine is installed in a Les Paul so I can't test the theory :)
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

thanks for the info guys, Im heavily influenced by Dimebag and I'm trying to mix his techniques with progressive metal.  I'll be getting the Miracle Man pickup with the Cold Sweat, thanks for the info guys.  I hope to hear a clip of this technique before I get my pickups.

You will be able to do get those sounds with pretty much any humbucker, a high output and and the right technique.

These techniques are nothing new Paul Gilbert was doing them with racer X way back when and other bands before him. I would definately say you just need shite lots of distorsion to get this sound as distorsion really makes the harmonics sound.

IMO from that clip Dimebag uses way too much distorsion it sounded very harsh and not at all organic.

I think the amount of delay is what makes it sound extreme, oh Dimebag has been using this technique since he was around 16 years old.
