Strat replacements

Gonna call Tim tomorrow as he was out today but eager to get everyones opinions.

I'm looking at a full set of Bk's to replace the sterile and toneless lace (red silver and blue) sensors in a strat plus deluxe with r/wood board. Now bearing in mind it has a roller nut and different fender trem bridge I was wondering how different the Bk's would sound and whether I'd be able to achieve that classic strat sound?

As pointers, I love a gritty strat sound-not too much mids,and can do cleans as well as responding to a nice bit of drive.

Hi,

I have the same guitar as you and I went for Mothers Milk, stock polarity, after some deliberation (see my couple of forum posts).

Sounds great.  I play with just tube overdrive (no pedals when using my strat) and backing from 10 to 8 goes from dirty to clean.  Amazing versatility, guitar sounds so much better - great string separation and classic strat twang.

Well, just spoke with Tim who recommended MMilks's mainly due to the type of bridge and how it locates with the body.

So, first purchase of Bk's- calibrated set on pre-wired guard-can't fooking wait!!

The bridge on the plus deluxe, as you know, only pivots on two screws as opposed to the 6 in a vintage strat and therefore has minimal contact with the body which to an extent will affect the tone. That together with the type of sounds I'm looking for we arrived at the MM's. ie enough oomph to sound good with fuzzes etc, yet still remain stratty!

Lifted, compared to a strat I used to own its not a 'sprangy' vintage tone and has undertones that are smoother, more rich etc. Tuning stability is spot on-never ever goes out of tune-temperature changes aside.

I would say go with Tim's recommendation as he is the guru though I am sure the Apaches would do a great job. Don't forget to tell us what you think of the Mmilks when you get them. Any chance of a clip?

I'd send a clip but don't have any recording mechanism - unlss you can offer any free, cheap ideas using a laptop?

If you have a mic, you can use a free recording program called Audacity, just google it and download, it works really well for a free recorder.

Fitted my Mothers Milk's this morning and haven't stopped playing!

To say I'm really impressed is somewhat of an understatement...

The lace sensors in comparison were truly dull and lifeless, these have soul and tone in abundance.

I'm finding myself using less gain on my amps as the breaking up tones are just lovely and they sustain into mellow feedback when coaxed. Having said that , my fuzz factory has never sounded so good thro' a nano.

Ordered cubase today and will post some clips soon.

Right I'm off to carry on where I left off........
