Interesting info for any ADA MP-1 Preamp owners
« on: June 28, 2006, 12:53:37 PM »
While trawling the web I found some information imparted by a certain Michael Wagener.  Basically his ADA MP-1 was used as one of the main rhythm guitar sounds on several classic Skid Row, Extreme and White Lion albums of the 90s.  Not only that they used the same patch settings too which MW also provided:

Quote from: Michael Wagener
Overdrive 1 : 4.0 dist
Overdrive 2 : 5.5 dist
Master Gain : 7.5 dist
Bass : 12
Mid : 6
Treb : 6
Pres : 12
Voicing : .tube
FX loop : off

From the ADA it went into the McIntosh 2100 (transistor) poweramp and from there into a vintage Marshall 4x12 cab with the original G12H inside. At that time I normally used Fostex M11RP ribbon mics and Countryman Lavalier mics through a John Hardy M1 to record guitar.

BTW, I still have version 1.0 software in the ADA. I changed it to version 2.x and it was quieter but wasn't quite as dynamic, so I changed it back to 1.0.

Anyway, I thought any lucky MP-1 owners on here might find it interesting to try these settings out.  :)

I love the Internet.  :D

/me wanders off to ebay... just in case...  ;)

Nice find!!

There are tonnes of MP-1s out there to be had for cheap!
Almost makes me want to get one ... but I also have an eye out for Jonathan's Lee Jackson preamp! :(

adadepot.com has loads of patch settings from guys in well known bands (Paul Gilbert), makes a interesting way to see what the MP-1 can do. Though i think alot of the settings use too much presence, sounds too fizzy to me.

I don't think Jonathan is going to sell his Lee Jackson preamp anymore, i had a deal with Jonathan with that preamp but he really wanted to keep it in the end to do some of his own preamp tinkering, so the deal stopped. Looking forward to hear what he's going to do with it.

I used to ache for one of those in the 80's!

They still sound like a great piece of gear.  8)
