I switched to 10s on my LP the other day and all was going well until yesterday, did a bend and the G string snapped at the tuner.. Whats the cause of this? I'm using the same stringing technique as I did with 11s and I never ever snapped strings at the tuner then.. Any ideas?

Maybe it was a dodgy string to start with?...Or maybe there's a sharp edge on the tuner that couldn't cut through the thicker string, but with these thinner ones it can now...Put more 10s on (or just replace the G) and see if it happens again...if it does then you should maybe consider new tuners

Yeah well none of the other strings have done it.. I dont have any more replacement G's in the size used in 10s so I put one from my old 11s set back on.. wow it feels weird! How did I ever play these :lol:

Maybe see if you can see a sharp edge in the G tuner, and maybe file it off or summat...

If you've got locking tuners, sometimes a string can fly out as if it had snapped at the tuner, but it's actually just come loose due to improper tightening of the locking screw. That could be the case if you have locking tuning pegs.

Nope they are the stock Grovers which came on the guitar. Whenever I bother to get a proper sized string for it I'll check the hole for sharpness..

I'm thinking though it might have just been me being heavy handed when stringing it as I was used to the thicker ones, and maybe I bent it in such a way that it would be made weaker.. if thats even possible

Could be nut problems? Especially since you changed string guage.

Well.. its actually snapped at the tuner, not the nut so I'm guessing not, unless something wrong with the nut would make it snap at the tuner but that wouldnt really make sense.

Sounds like a string quality issue, I find ernie balls to be the best around today. My advise is get a new set of strings from a different manufacturer, see if the same problem happens again, if it does you need to check out the guitar in depth.

Hmm thing is I've used D'addarios for ages now and they have been the best I've used so far, I rarely snap em.

I agree with the getting new strings issue, but I find Rotosounds to feel much stronger and last better than ernies...that may just be me though :P

My ernie ball strings don't seem to be the longest lasting strings, but they last for a damn long time, and they sound better than any string. They seem to bring out the tight crunch I like :)
