But wasn't 90% of his riffs taken from the keyboard player? Explains why all his songs are not in 'normal' guitar keys. IE a lot of Eb and Bb keys are used.

I think.

Yes Badgermark, the story goes that Chuck "adapted" the riffs from Johnny Johnson's playing.
In fairness to my mate Nige, the poor sod lives a life of drudgery with an incredibly lazy idle wife who does abosolutely nothing other than socialise with her mates whilst he runs the house and holds down a full time job and he does not get much chance to listen to music. Having said that, his favourite group is Supertramp so he deserves everything he gets imho having inflicted it on me in the car on one occasion. ( now I am sure someone somewhere on this forum is gonna flame me for that).

With a name like Nige, I was thinking XTC must be his favourite!  Perhaps if his missus is like you say, then his favourite Supertramp song is 'Right' (I think that's the title - the one that goes 'Right, right, you're bloody well right. You've got a bloody right to be', sor words to that effect!).

Poor Nige. He should go on house strike and she if she shapes up. I love a bit of Chuck Berry, that's where Steve Jones from the pistols got all his licks! I've played Johnny B Goode a few times in pubs when they let people jump up and sing, hmm best forget that!

I don't mind a bit of Supertramp. My Dad used to play it a lot in the 70's so it reminds me of being a kid! There's a few old bands that i got into that way. 10cc   Led Zepp,  Pink Floyd, mind you they got into that terrible lot Manhattan Transfer! Do you remember them? Ugh the pain...... :x

I think his wife is always "Making Plans For Nigel" ( Phil, I know it won't be wasted on you)- she is one of those people that does bugger all but gives him hell constantly and a list of jobs to do whilst she is out socialising. Her taste in music is terrible- she loves Bay City Rollers and those terrible cheap phoney reggae compilation cd's that any self respecting reggae fan would not even use as a drinks coaster. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear he'd bludgeoned her to death with a passion fruit or maybe a guava if he gets really angry.

Sounds like a fairly unhappy marriage...Has he tried to talk it out with her? - I'm not gonna try and give advice, as I'm 17 and have never had a serious relationship, but to me it sounds like a situation that needs to change

Johnny B Goode is a legend of a song though - and a great end to back to the future also

It is not that simple-she wouldn't be interested in listening - sad really as he is a decent hard working bloke. I think he thinks she will one day change and they have a kid so it ain't just about him and her- what a depressing thread I have started.

Well at least he has Mr Beatle as a friend, which is a great honour to my mind...

Quick question: Where did the 38th part come from?

Sounds like your friend and the kid would be better off on their own, which is a sad thing to say.

Hey it's not depressing but it is sad.

:D You have to be smart & unfortunatley your mate Nig is going to have to work it out for himself i`m afraid.

Personnal fav Chuck song "Roll Over Beethoven"  & there`s nothing wrong with a bit of Supertramp. i was watching TV the other night & they showed a clip of Supertramp playing "Dreamer" live on Top Of The Pops. Unbelievable made all the current stuff look pathetic in comparison.

I've known couples like that Steve, it does get to you when there good friends. Invite him along to one of your gigs if he hasn't been, I bet he would have a great time.

I should get him to a gig Johnny. He is a nice guy and deserves better. His missus likes to come across all " I will do anything for anyone" but she is as shallow as a puddle. OK  deg0ey, time to come clean. The 38th  is a little p*ss take of mine to a time when everyone claimed to be responsible for or an essential part of the Beatles success- many people liked to claim that they were the "5th" Beatle- some had good reason to have claimed that but didn't because they had too much class ( George Martin)-others were just freeloaders. It was my little dig at freelaoders everywhere- may you get your comeuppance. There you go- that is the only time I will expain that. Not very funny as I'd have liked.
