As part of the Tower Music Festival in London.

Buddy Guy opened the show and the blues legend showed he can more than cut it. Not only an amazing player and singer, but hilarious to boot!

But Jeff Beck stole the show. I saw Satriani play at the Hammersmith Apollo the other week and fell asleep (no joke), it was the fourth time I had seen him and to be honest, one of the worst gigs I have ever been to. Well, this Beck gig was everything the Satriani gig was not.

He had tone, his melodies were spot on, but his sheer control and command over the guitar is something I have never seen anyone else even come close to mastering. His style is unique, his ability to play melody lines just using the trem jaw dropping... awe inspiring.

One of the best lessons in guitar playing I have ever witnessed.

Wow that must have been great. Jeff Beck is under rated and I say that knowing that people call him brilliant- he is beyond that in my view. You had a treat there.

I envy you, brother. Does Jeff even use a locking whammy bar to do that magic?. To me he is the most unique guitarist I have ever heard. I just got "You had it coming" the other day. It's his brilliant take on Techno. I love that slow Ethereal Twang bar stuff. Cheers

I agree, Beck is beyond brilliant. He is a one of a kind that continues to move forward. Every time he releases a new album I know that I am going to learn something new.

As hard as it is to believe, no, there is no locking trem on his guitar, just the updated Fender version of the trem that has existed for about 20 years.

I did have a treat... I still have not stopped smiling!

Yeah I think he has a roller nut, at least that's what on his signature strat.

Say, which Marshall tops does he play there? Could you identify them?

You saw Jeff Beck, Woah! :D I agree with everthing you say about him. I've only got a best of cd of his that I bought in 96' I play it to death and the stuff he does still blows me away. I'd love to go and see him live. Thanks for the pics March!

Scatterbrain, that's a technical one of his that really gets me and one of his 80's ones, The Pump. At first I didn't get it but now it's something else! It's has a lot of that trem 8) control your were saying about. I must buy more of his stuff as i know i'm missing out on all the fun! :D

Ultimate sickner.........2 Of my mates play in a Beach Boys tribute band called "The Beached Boys" They were asked to go in & record with Jeff on his latest album. They spent 12 hours in a recording studio with him !!!!

My mate who plays guitar stated. "I saw him do things with an unplugged strat i`ve never seen before. I S**t you not he made that guitar sound like a keyboard & it wasn`t even plugged in ! "

And the B**stards didn`t ask me to go with `em to the studio !!!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Iv'e wanted to see Beck for over 20 years and always managed to miss him (this time around cos I as usual have no money). though I do have a camcorder recording of his annivercery gig from a few years ago.

To me Beck is proves that it is possible to have both technique and melody at the same time, hence my dissmissal of a certain twin necked widdler a couple of months ago. I hust whish that I could have had the intellegence to use Mr Beck as proof of my point.

There was a great documentry a few months ago (BBC 4) about British blues of the 60s, and the band had amongst others, Van Morrison, Stevie Winwood (a very underrated guitarist in his own right) and Jeff Beck. Lets just say it was some fu**ing band.

Great pics- he is one of those players that the more you listen to, the more you hear. Often I find something I hadn't noticed before and yet I have listened to that particular piece dozens of time. He turned up to watch a charity gig that my son played in a couple of years ago. I did not get to talk to him but I was totally stunned to see him there- watching my boy!

Been a lifelong fan since I went to my first ever gig and saw Jeff with the Yardbirds. He was amazing even then - played an Esquire straight into two Vox amplifiers - AC30 and AC100 - this was just before he switched to Marshall (used a Tone Bender on a few numbers). His tone and phrasing was so good I remember going up to the stage to see what other equipement/pedals he was using - Nope, no tricks - just him. Although I was fanatical about playing the guitar I seriously considered packing it in after seeing him.

I remember reading a quote from someone who had played in one of his bands .. "Jeff never finishes with a note until he's done something with it."

I saw Jeff and Buddy in Liverpool the other week.

Buddy is a class performer, a real showman

I saw Jeff back in '89 on the Guitar Shop Tour and was blown away. But this time it was better. I was 4 rows from the front ,right in front of him.
He had a white signature strat, rosewood neck with roller nut and vintage trem.

He drepresses the trem and swells the volume at the same time

As an encore he played "When you wish upon a star" - disney. Just him and the keyboard player. He played most of it using harmonics that
i never knew existed. When he stopped there was a silence before the clapping, everyone was gob smacked. A true virtuoso performance.

Have a look at www.youtube.com and search on Jeff Beck, someone has posted a phonecam version of the 'when you wish' on it.

I would also recommend you look for the 15min interview with Jeff from a BBC recording in the 70's. This surely is what the Spinal Tap character Nigel Tufnel was based on - very funny.

Also look for the videos of "Nadia" and "Cause We've Ended as Lovers"
