Looking for amp tech in NYC
« on: July 21, 2006, 01:57:12 AM »
Hi All,

First post here. Could someone please recommend a dependable amp tech in Manhattan? I have a silverface Deluxe that needs a physical. Just a going over to make sure everything is solid, for now.  I also have a couple of guitars needing nut jobs, so if any one knows of a good luthier (with somewhat less than rock star prices), I would really appreciate it. It doesn’t have to be one stop shopping but I would like to keep them in the City. Any suggestions?

Thank you

There's a great tech in the Union Square area. I will check and get back to you. I used to use Harry Kolbe, but he's since retired to do Atomic amps ...

As for a guitar tech, you can try 30th St Guitars, Mandolin Brothers, or in a pinch, the Guitar Center on 14th St.

Excellent! Thanks a lot guys. Evan sounds perfect. I was trying to avoid having to go out to Mandolin brothers. I was looking at Imai Guitars on 22nd, but at $225+ plus material cost for nutwork, I almost had a seizure. At that rate I might as well buy the tools and (try to) do it myself, which eventually I’ll do anyway. But if Evan works out that’ll be fantastic. TO, I’ll keep an eye out for the amp tech and thanks again.

Cool...glad to help

Let me know how he works out.  I recommend everyone to him and they all are very satisfied customers.  He makes his business by existing client referrals.
He might be able to suggest a good amp repair man too!!

Shag101,

Thanks a lot. I can’t think of how it could have worked out
better with Evan. Not only is he a nice guy who knows what
he’s doing and fast at a very reasonable rate, but he also
offers courses in proper guitar set-up, nut work, refrets, etc.
AND, he is diagonally across the street from me less then a
block away. I could probably tell if he’s home by sticking my
head out my window. Someday I’d like the chance to return
the favor. Unfortunately the amp tech he has been using for
years, Blackie Pagano, has just moved his shop to LA. So now
we’re both looking for a good tech.

Anyway, thanks again,
Laszlo
