Is there any difference between mini and regular size potentiometers? All the Guitars nowadays have the mini ones. I'm working on two of my own and they both have the small size. Is is a space over tone issue? Or do they just save space in general? I'm banking off that they are probably cheaper to make and produce.

Also on my Stratocaster I have a VHII/Irish Tour set that is sitting in the pickguard, but the operator behind the solderng gun has no clue as to what he is doing. So far I have tried Two different wiring diagrams on the net; The one that was shipped in the box, and a Seymour Duncan. After both and even trying a hybrid of the two It still doesn't work.

These are the parts:
Standard 2-pole 5-way Strat switch
2-CKS 250k pots (large pot size)
1-CKS 500k pot(large pot size)
1-VHII humbucker
2-Irish Tour Single Coils

I want the standard switching sequence of:
Pos. 1-Bridge
Pos. 2-Split Bridge, Middle
Pos. 3-Middle
Pos. 4-Middle, Neck
Pos. 5-Neck

So far I've been two weeks at this and my best result so far has been lots of hum and some wacky switching positions.

Any help would be appriciated.

If I remember rightly (which I probably don't) you can't wire that with a 2 Pole switch...

If you can find a push pull from somewhere I have a schematic I came up with for my HSS guitar. It would have switching as follows...

Push Pull Down:

1 = Bridge (full)
2 = Bridge (full) + Middle in parallel
3 = Middle
4 = Middle + Neck in parallel
5 = Neck

Push Pull Up - as above, but with the bridge split in position 1 and 2

If you want that, then I can try and create the schematic on the pc and send it over

The Schematics that I have been trying to use all have said that I will have automatic coil tapping at position 2. But so far it has deffinately not been workng. What switch do you recommend for the switching that I desire?

It's nothing against you but I don't really want to have a push/pull pot on my guitar. I'm more simple minded and therefore need a simple guitar :P .

I don't really know what you would need to be honest with you...I'm not much of an electronics person at all, I just looked at the parts I had and thought about what would happen when wires were connected in different ways. Good luck on finding something suitable

Thanks for the help anyways. I'm about to order from stewmac because I'm working on the other Guitar. So I'll find a switch there that I like.

Use this diagram, but remember the wiring colour for BK is different to Seymour Duncan. The coil colour chart is included with your BK's or you can check in the FAQ section.

Not wishing to be too obvious here, but if you can't get the coil split in position 2 check if the pickup is 2 or 4 conductor. You can't split a 2 conductor.

A little update on the progress....

Thanx for all the replies but I actually bought a new switch from Stewman called the Megaswitch E model. Compleatly solved all my problems. Worked like a charm the first time.

But now I am running into issues with the Warmoth custom neck. I managed to get it all together, but every string was being squenched above the 9th Fret. So i'm back to resetting the neck for more angle. And raising the nut too.

On first impression, truely a classic rock tone. This pickup has so much depth its amazing, and the Irish Tours aren't bad either :twisted: .
