I just received my Keeley modded Boss SD-1. Really awesome sustain and boost for a great distorted lead sound. It really rocks. ONE RATHER LARGE PROBLEM!!! It causes a TON of feedback when it's not being played. I have a Boss Noise Surpressor running in the effects loop, but of course, the SD-1 is going into the input of the amp...so, what can i do to rectify this problem. I love the tone of the SD-1 5 star, but damn can it get awfully painful (especially for those without EARPLUGS!!!  :twisted:  :lol: ) to listen to the feedback when I take my hands off the strings! I know this is a simple problem that has a solution, but I'm too dumb to figure it out  :lol:

buy earplugs and another noise suppressor?

^ no, but th decimator is good enough to pretty much just run in front of the amp, and not need a noise suppressor in the loop.

Obviously, though, it depends how much feedback you have. I can still get feedback with my decimator on...

Sounds like your volume level and proximity to the amp may be the problem.  :twisted:

And turn down the presence on your amp.

I like my presence around 8...will it mess with my sound if I turn it down? And how does standing next to my amp create more feedback? I never really got that. Maybe it's the way I'm setting the noise suppressor up? I went: Guitar>Input of SD1>Input of Noise Suppressor>Head. Should I do that weird loop thing that Boss has in its manual and take the NS-1 out of my effects loop? I could always knuckle up for another noise suppressor for stuff out of the effects loop...meaning overdrive FX.

Standing too close to the amp at high volumes causes feedback, or taking your hand off the strings, it's called a "loop". . If you were playing with a hollowbody guitar it would be even harder to control. Basically it's vibrations at certain frequencies which are picked up by the pickups comes out the amp back to the pickups... etc..and it just keeps going like that. It's the SD1, Robert fits a germanium transistor working as a diode, trouble is it tends to be microphonic.

Tim's SD1s used to do this when I was doing shows with BKP - and people blamed the pickups but it's actually the pedal!

It's not so bad if you get the pedal away from the amp and guitar a bit, I usually turn it off when I'm not playing!

I figured out a little while back that all I had to do was place the SD-1 in the Noise Suppressor's loop to eliminate all feedback! All I had to do was twist the threshold to max and VOILA. Perfect. thanks for the feedback, everyone, NO PUN INTENDED :lol:  :lol:

If anyone is interested, I might be selling my Keeley SD-1 very soon....just don't find the need for it to justify the space on my pedalboard with a Mesa....

But, I think it might be your amp or supressor....I get no such feedback....only when I want it!  :D
