Ugly Fun

I just encountered the Vintage ZIP in my local music shop. What a fantastically ugly little instrument that is. Sparkly gold with lipstick pickups, for less than 200 quid too.

I figured it had to be a bust, It had to play or sound horrific, but the shock is it doesn't! Ok, it's never going to play like a JEM and sound like a Les Paul, but it was way more than bearable. I think I've just found the backup guitar for me.

Not sure how you're gonna get BKPs in it though, the Timbucker thing maybe?

According to the specs it's not a true humbucker, but 2 single coils in series (OK, yes, this is essentially what a humbucker is). The ones Tim does for Nathan Shephard should fit
Actually I'm tempted to get one of the plainer versions for a slide guitar.

LOL! That is rather ugly. Maybe change the scratchplate to black and the knobs to chrome?

Didn't they use those to warm beds in the olden days....or perhaps a bed pan on a stick?  I bet there are two ancient turds stuck under those pickup covers, and if not they let them down with a bit of yellow for the paint job.

I like it. At least its an attempt to be bloody different even if it is the bar-steward offspring of a drunken night between a Les Paul Junior and a Danelectro

Looks like it would be a good starter guitar.  Probably less tempramental than all the unplayable stratoclones that litter students bedrooms.

I like the pink one

You could always send the pickups to tim for a rewind/rebuild, then you know it will fit.
