but I've been told it can alter the sound of the guitar for either better or worse, and I don't wanna get it done unless I can be sure it'll be 100% safe from damaging the guitar's sound in any way. And it can't cost any more than like £130.

Any change in the finish will usually change the sound somewhat, though whether you'll hear a noticable difference is another matter.

I'd say a snakeskin finish, due to it being a kinda of veneer, will slightly muffle the sound.  But, again, whether you'll really notice it or not I can't say.
