Having recently discovered this amazing musician, I thought I would share it with you all.
Erik Mongrain is unlike many other guitarists, he is, in my opinion, one of the most resourceful and talented musicians on this planet.
His uniqueness is personified in the way that he plays guitar.
Put simply, it is queer to anything you have probably seen before, even from the likes of Joe Satriani.
Erik Mongrain has combined many different playing styles, especially lap-tap, into one, fluid style of playing, which can only be described as mesmerizing.
His grasp over the instrument is a joy to see and hear, you can really feel the passion reverberating around the room when he plays.
Practically everyone he plays for is amazed by his playing, I was, for sure.
But enough of prasing him, let's see him in action!
Airtap[/u]
Clicky. The first video I saw of Erik Mongrain in action, having heard of him once on the television, but did not grasp the name, this was the answer to a thing that had been bugging me for a while.
Who was this player?
This video enthralled me, and inspired me to learn tapping, even if I was kinda bad at it.
PercusienFa[/u]
Clicky. One of my absolute favourites, note the way he cleverly uses percussion within his playing to keep a beat within the song, this song always amazes me, in the sense of the beauty of the sound he produces.
I'm listening to it now, and I keep pausing to watch him...
Fusions[/u]
Clicky. This is definitely more up-beat, and really displays Mongrain's potential, range, and ability.
The Silent Fool[/u]
Clicky. This is a more desolate sounding song, intwined with a sense of despair and sadness.
Reminds me of a desert...
His virtuosity is displayed well in this video, and is one of my favourites.
Timeless (Studio Unfinished) [/b][/u]
Clicky. This song has an underlying Spanish feel to it, which shows his inspiration from classical guitar.
A shame that this video is a bit skippy in some parts, but still makes for a nice listen.
A Ripple Effect[/b][/u]
Clicky. A 45 second short, but another favourite.
His prowess for the guitar is displayed well here, and again shows a Spanish feel.
No more videos. =(

Well, that's the end of our little adventure into the world of Erik Mongrain, and I am very glad I have had the chance to introduce you to such a wonderful guitarist.
I hoped you enjoyed this thread.
More information can be found
here, and his YouTube video collection can be found
here.
Erik Mongrain's album, with no fixed title at the moment, will be out very soon, they are currently looking for a distributor, so with any luck, we should have the album in a few months.
Thank you for reading, even though some of the BBCode doesn't work, espcially media tags, which would have allowed you to view the video in the same window. =(
