RY's not screaming as they should! :-(
« on: August 09, 2006, 01:41:58 PM »
I have recently bought a set of RY's and an IT for my Ibanez RG570 and have had a bit of a problem. I have been following this diagram:

http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/wire.asp?y=1999&w=RG570

The problem is, the wires are different colours and the IT only has two wires. As it stands, I have sound from postions 2-4 but only very quiet sound through 1 and 5.

I have taken red as same and black instead of white from the diagram. I also put white IT wire on pot and black on the switch.

It is the first time I have wired up pickups and require help to fix this problem.

Thanks in advance.

first things first, the RY wires are:

Black + bare wire = ground
Red = hot
white and green = coil split

so according to your diagram the reds should go to the switch (same as your diagram) and the white/green wires should also go to the switch if you want the coils to split when two pickups are on (instead of just the white wires in the diagram).  The black and bare wires should go to the back of the pot.

The IT 's two wires are hot and ground, white and black wires right.

Wire the white to the switch and the black to ground (back of pot)

Where the white goes on the diagram, I should attach the green and white together from no coil split?

And what would I do if I want to split?

Appologies for my lack of knowledge

glad you got it sorted. The white and green wires that go to the switch will enable the bridge and neck humbuckers to split themselves in position 2 and 4,

it gives you this selection:

Bridge humbucker
Bridge singlecoil/middle single coil
middle single coil
middle single coil/neck single coil
neck humbucker

You can just as easily not do this, leave the white and green wires taped off, not attached  to anything.  That gives you this selection:

Bridge HB
Bridge HB/middle SC
Middle SC
Middle SC/Neck HB
Neck HB

I would try it both ways and see which you prefer

I think I'm going to try this option with my Ibanez. I never did get the coil split quite right.  :)
