My VHII Neck pickup (Feedback?)
« on: August 10, 2006, 03:58:31 PM »
I've got a VHII neck pickup thats currently not in any guitars, because it feeds back in live situtations under high gain...

Is this normal of the VHII neck pickup? the VHII bridge doesnt do it, neither does my Cold Sweat Neck or Miracle Man Set..

Just that VHII neck pickup, it's fantastic sounding pickup probably the best neck pickup out of all of them it's just i cant use the bugger live..

any ideas? :s

Any pickup will feedback if the volume is loud enough. Here's a link to a post about feedback from not too long ago as well as an article.

could well be, that'd explain why it sounded good at low volume levels.. :P

^ well, is it actual feedback, or microphonic feedback? I'd guess if it's microphonic, all you'd have to do is send it back to tim to repot it...

if it was "normal" feedback, wouldn't the bridge do the exact same thing???

I had a set of Gibson BurstbuckerTs in my Les Paul at one point.... the neck had a bad feedback problem.  The bridge had it too much it was much less of a problem with the bridge than the neck... the neck would squeal so loudly my neighbors ears would bleed, but the bridge wouldn't have a problem....
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Microphony is literally just that, the pickup acts almost like a microphone becoming almost alive.Feedback is totally uncontrolable and you'll hear handling noise from the guitar too.
If your VHII neck has gone microphonic mail it back and I'll repot and mail back by return.

High gain/high volume feedback is a bit of a problem when you don't want it, standing away from the amp, damping the strings when you aren't playing, and turning any pedals off should help. If you've tried all these and you're still getting feedback, it's time to look at other possibilities.

What amp are you using? When did you last change your pre-amp valves/have it serviced? What pedals are you using? etc, etc.

Feedback can be your friend sometimes though...

it's done it in 3 different guitars on 4 different amps, regardless of volume levels, even loud bedroom volumes feedback..

I deffinatly think it's microphonic, i'll mail it back to tim probably at some point to let him check it out.
