BlackDogs Cleanish RainSong Theme
« on: August 13, 2006, 07:01:06 PM »
Played through the "clean" channel of my THD UniValve Top power soaked at bedroom level through a Heritage 2x12 Cab and recorded through 2 channels: 1 Palmer Speaker Sim and 1 Condenser Room Mic.

All played with the Epi Les Paul through the neck pickup.

Enjoy...

thanks. actually listened to it again and found it a bit dull, that#s why I edited the post and uploaded a new version, with lots more high mid fizzle from the EL34 power stage for that authentic plexy feel :)

And also I added a bonus here:
This is sick, but sounds damn cool - my secret weapon fuzz pedal used for the same pattern ... and some way out soloing at the end ...

Very nice tone on the first 2!  What is the fuzz used on the last one?  A Z Vex?

I've been kinda learning this song on acoustic by ear, I love it! I wanna hear this THD doing some proper crunchy rock stuff now (more of heartbreaker is never a bad thing!)

Hija,

Re Fuzz: Yes, it's the ZVex one
Re Tom: To be able to play it right, you need to change to a EADADE tuning (it's very simple, just tune the G string after 7th fret on D and the B after 5th fret of the G(A))

By the way, the Uni is for sale, incl all tubes and the yellowjacket, check the seconds out section for details.

I thought the Rain Song was in Open G, thats how I've been learning it anyway, I was just playing around in that tuning and realised I was playing a part of that song

I just have to pipe in and say these tracks sound fantastic!  Also I didn't realize Rain Song was played in a different tuning live.  Any idea why?

it probably sounded good in the studio in one tuning, but then one day he played it in the other tuning because he couldn't be bothered to retune his guitar (i do it all the time) and realised it sounded better, so started playing that version live

Open A is easy (change 2 strings) and can be done in a break during a live situation. As it doesn't seem that Jimi is using tens of different guitars on the gig, I guess that's the reason.

Maybe its to do with Plants voice then if the live is EADADE, on the Song Remains the Same DVD I'm pretty sure they are playing a semitone up, I guess its because he has a naturally high singing voice, or something?
