Artists who have signature pickups.. Food for Thought..

When say Steve Vai went to DiMarzio.. and said, I want a pickup made for me..

Do you think the prototypes will have been scatterwound/handwound before they went into mass production and thus Vai might have a scatterwound version of the Evo on his Main Guitar..

Hence why he had a hissy fit when his Tech Changed the neck pickup once upon a time?

Scatterwound, I don't know, but lots of choice among a lot of pickups (guitar... amp....)
Try 15 Les Paul and you will find the gem...
Try 15 DiMarzio Evo in your favorite JEM and found the one that fits perfectly...

Just my opinion... (don't know if it's the truth or not)

:D All signature prototypes are hand made. This includes guitars, P/U`s, Fx pedals all of it. It`s not tenable for the manufacturer to make something designed by the artist so they can endorse it with a machine. It would cost to much.

Once it`s been agreed with the artist it can go into mass production. Yes Vai, Satch,Johnson & Timmons all have hand wound pickups as for scatterwinding......?
