Are these good guitars?
Since Fender took over Jackson i've heard they have been a bit cr@ppy.
But they look nice as hell and i need a good metal guitar and that might be good for my kind of playing.

they're alright but not amazing...

the 2006 ones have duncan pickups, but they feel a bit like cheaper guitars fitted with duncans to try to ensnare newer players...

i think the trem is a little better than the 2005 model, but still nowhere near an OFR etc.

so yeah, they're alright, but not amazing. it has no all-access neck joint either, so upper fret access is pretty poor...

well

the rr5 (next model up) i had was ok.

Had SD TB4 pickups

Good:

Light
Sounded ok
nice neck
finish (natural) looked good

Bad:

Gold hardware got messed up VERY quickly, was pretty cheapo
the gold control plate was secured by really small screws that kept coming lose due to the cheap soft wood
said control plate rattled..
jack was wobbly

Didnt feel like a £730 guitar.

Search ebay for an older one, not a bad guitar just a bit untidy and not as polished as it should be...conversely the 2 charvels i had at the same time (80s and a modern one) were built like tanks and very nice!

The RR3's go quite cheap 2nd hand (maybe cos people dont like the shape and then ditch it?) it'd be a good guitar to buy and 'mod' :)

they're very good for the money and they take a beating, i still have my RR3 but i went off the neck profile, too weird and chunky.

That is just not true.  The best Jacksons I have ever played, hands down have came from the fender-era (but also did some of the worst).  Depends on the one you get really...

The people who usually say that say that because Dave Mustaine left Jackson for ESP when Fender bought them out.  The reason for this is both because he tried to buy the company but they opted to sell to Fender for more money, and because he also sold a lot of his Jacksons which was a breech of his endorsee contract.
Real men turn their volume to 11!

I have an RR3, and yea ill have to agree its ok. Thats it just pretty average.

Action isnt as low as i would have liked, hardware has been reliable so far. My LTD m 100fm had a cross threaded locking nut screw, the volume pot broke and now i have no sound and the other pots are coming loose. My RR3 has withstood the same beating and the pots are nice and firm still, and everything is in nice working order. Its my current guitar, and i lvoe it to bits but some things to note..

Pickups are poor imo
Trem is a stiffy, takes some getting used to
some people just CANT play them sitting down, but i find it way more comfortable than regular guitar sitting and now it actually feels unnatural to play a super strat sitting now :? . You just put ur leg up on a stool or something and wedge the shorter fin inbetween your legs. I find i sit upright this way while playing and plus it feels heavy fvckin metal!

And about fret access, its only 22 and i find NO probs whatsoever accessing all the frets.

But yea, for the price id say its average too. average price, average guitar. Its not my dream guitar but ive grown to love it!

Just my opinions there i thought id pitch forward. And online reviews really are nothing to go by, so i wouldnt bother reading.
