Hi there

Read some very good reviews of these pickups and I'm looking to caputure a Stevie Ray Vaughan type tone on a Jap Strat

What would you suggest ?

I've heard that the Irish Tour pickups capture the Texas Tornado's tone pretty accurately.  :)
VHII's, Nailbomb's & Irish Tours :-)

Im sure they can do Stevie, just alot more as well. These pickups are very responsive to volume control and versatile, i guess backing down the volume will give you more of the tone you mentioned.

Try the trilogies - they're a great pickup!

Don't forget SRV used EMG pickups on at least one of his strats (used on the Texas Flood album). So as a modern voiced strat pickup, the trilogies will not be too far out. Plus there very high output, so you're amp will get a helping hand!

What you might find is that you have to hit the strings a bit harder, then you'll start to hear the SRV tone come out!

Don't worry yet - road test 'em first!!

No, please don't do that!
They're not wound with the same wire and unless you're experienced and have done it before, unwinding pickups isn't a good idea.
