embarassing as it is, i know nothing about ohmage etc when it comes to amps and cabs. Recently my bass player has been looking to buy a new amp, head and cab this time around but neither of us really know the rules of watts and ohms aside from the head can't be more watts than the cab, and of course that you cant have a 4 ohm output into a 2 ohm cab kinda deal. anyone with a good explination or link to a good resource for this would be greatly appreciated! excuse the ignorance  :P

You could try googling Ohms law- it is worth knowing. I did it years ago at school and it has served me well.

Head can be more watts then the cab.  You just have to know how far you can go volume wise before you blow the speakers.

RMS rating is the best to go by not peak rating.

Efficient speakers are more important than wattage. a 100w amp into a 100dB cab will sound as loud as a 200w into a 97dB cab.

You can always go up in impedance  on a tranny amp, the amp will run cooler and last longer, never go down below the stated impedance, unless you like taking amps to your tech!

ooo "Ohmage" I've not heard that one...I've heard "Wattage", but not Ohmage...

It's much less confusing if people say Power and Impedance - then we actually sound like we know what we're on about (it's like if I started saying "Metreage" instead of Distance - just sounds stupid)

Umm 38th Ohms Law doesn't really help an awful lot with amp impedance if memory serves, but I could be wrong.

I could go into a whole technical explanation of impedence - but it just ends up confusing everyone (including myself) and doesn't actually help much :lol:

I meant an understanding of resistance/impedence  cannot do any harm.
