Am getting a set of apaches, what cap is best to get the start sound

find some diagrams on the net, and do what they tell you, .1uf is what is used on 57 3way strats, but .022k is whats used on am series, but i#m no expert. acmeguitarworks.com has good diragrams

I tend to prefer the 0.022 rather than the 0.047 since it doesnt all go muddy sounding - you get some nice growl when you back off the tone
But feel free to experiment- try a 0.033 if you want somewhere in between

where can i get good quality cap, like orange drops and those bee (forgot the real name) ones?

Why is one of those brands of capacitor about 14 quid? Will a humble cap be actually able to make a significant difference to tone? :o

I got all of my Sprauge 'orange drop' caps online from the

axes'r'us

website.

I replaced the sprague style orange drop cap in my Fender USA Strat with a Mallory .022uF that I got from ebay (25 for 99p!!!) and it sounded very noticeably better - I now use these exclusively for tone circuit caps, and I've tested them against different ceramics, polyproplyene etc and these came out top.

There was a guy that I bought them from on eBay - I tried to find them last night when I made that post but I don't think they're on at the moment. I'll post again when I find the guy's details.

I've been using Hovland Musicaps, both .022 and .033mfd and they sound very good.They aren't cheap and I've had a friend bring me in some from the US.
Vitamin Q oil and paper caps sound nice too-Allparts sell them but again they're alot of money.
Worth it or not?
They both certainly make a big improvement to the tone-as always let your own ears decide.

Tim, can you notice a difference with your tone on '10' ???

Where do you usually have your tone knob set?
