okay, here's the deal... I've got my laptop internet connection running from a wireless router. I have an old Laserjet 5L printer I want to hookup - it's not PNP so the idea I had of running a USB-to-parallel printer cable between the laptop and printer didn't work.

I'm thinking there will be some kind of 'box' that I can run from one of the spare ethernet ports on the router to the printer - is this (easily) doable?

Is the laptop your only PC?

My setup has a wireless router for my laptop, with ethernet cables running to desktops - one of which acts as the printer server, and is connected directly to the printer...

Problem with that is that the "server" has to be switched on whenever you want to print, and if you don't have a desktop available then it won't work.

There might be some other option as well, to connect the printer to the laptop that I'm unaware of :drink:

if the printer has an ethernet port, then you should be able to just connect it to the router/hub

if the printer doesn't, then that wireless option which 3th3r posted is workable, but i personally wouldn't put a wireless on the side of a printer, it's just unnecessary, try and find a parallel -> ethernet convertor which would allow you to connect the printer straight up to the hub

I think that will do the job very nicely - looks expensive though :(
