David Bray mods marshalls and sells them for about 1800 - 2000 $.

Probably no real comparison, but would you say the Crunch Box can get that style of crunch (and the feedback which sounds lovely :P) or is it not similar at all?

Well, a boost in front of a Nano will easily get you there. Once I've sorted out my PC and Cubase I'll post some clips.

wow, very nice clips there, I never realised that marshalls can sound so good! they normally sound awefull, but these babies dont! and I dont think any pedal even comes close to a decent valve amp, but that's my opinions. bye

I've heard of Dave Bray, the guys on Plexi Palace rave on about him.

He seems to have a good reputation, never heard a bad word about him - seems to know Marshalls inside out.

I've heard a lot about him and a lot of user sound clips as well. They all sound great, from a brown tone to 80s metal typically is what he does, and good at it!

If I were to have someone other than who has done the work on my amps do a mod for me, I would send it to him.

Marshall sound aweful!!I really don't think so.
They're probably, no make that definately, the most recorded and toured tube amp in the world and the simplest to use.All the clips I've posted were recorded with a stock Marshall, wasn't even mine, and getting a tone was quick and easy.You don't need to mod them either for a good tone-I'm not saying that you shouldn't mod them but they're good to start with-it all depends what you're after really.

These were all Bogner amps in Marshall housings :D

Just about every "boutique amp" out there is a bog standard Marshall circuit with a few component changes or an extra stage here and there - trust me on this, I've got schematics for a lot of them.

Dave's mods are no different, the only real difference between the Marshall circuits and Dave's mods is that he ties together the first 2 stages so they're wired in parallel, he even says himself that the tone he tries to acheive with his amps is the ideal Marshall sound he's got in his head but that cleans up well. I think he does a great job with the reissue amps, and although they don't sound exactly like a cranked Marshall, they have a cool vibe of their own with plenty of harmonics and feedback which is really nice.

When you have to pay thousands of pounds for a Bolognese amp to get great tone, I'd start looking at your playing instead.

Hey just kiddin:) For sure it comes from the fingers, but if you have a new amp with a cool tone, it's just more fun to play.

I am kinda cravin for one of these kits, anybody got any experience?

I definately agree - I'd say that an amp contributes more to the resulting tone than anything else in the signal chain 8)

I've tried this and wasn't too fussed - have you tried this with any success?

One thing I WOULD like to try is an EF86 gainstage in a plexi - that should be awesome. I did it in an AC30 and also in a little 2x 6V6 amp and they were screamers.

I think he's refering to the new ones, JCM 2000/current. You'd need to spend the price of those amps just to make it so I'd use one...

However, their tube amps prior to the 2000 series are killer especially the old handwired ones.
