So suddenly I find myself with a few hundred quid in the bank and I figure it's about time to finish up my strat copy. It's essentially a carvin bolt kit, alder body, maple neck and ebony fingerboard, hardtail. It's also finished in fur but with it having nowhere to attach strings yet I can't really tell you how that will affect the sound.
Anyway, pickups. I'm probably going to go for slowhands in the neck and middle because (get this) I like clapton's tone. At the bridge I'd like a 'bucker that when split could do a decent job of matching them, but that's not really a top priority. I'm more interested in getting a NWOBHMy/power metally tone out of it, so my first thought was the painkiller? Seems about perfect, but how long is it going to be before they're available? If it's too long I might just go for something else and swap it later.
If I do go for something else, I'd still like it to be good at NWOBHM type stuff, but versatility would be a concern as well. I do have a warpig loaded ravelle too, so it doesn't need to do much in the way of modern metal or the kind of big and dark cleans. I was thinking maybe a rebel yell. Any suggestions?
