Stupid ?
« on: September 02, 2006, 12:46:51 AM »
I started playing guitar back in the 80's. I stopped for a "career". There was no reason to really but hey ho.

I have been re-learning for the past year and something is still outwitting me: I play at home most of the time, I have neighbours and a girlfriend.  I have a little laney LC15, nonetheless I rely on pedals for my overdrive/distortion and ultimately my tone.

Am I missing out on something? If so how do I get "something" in my back room?

I realised after about 2 years of playing that "ok, been doing this for a while, I really should invest in something that will keep inspiring me". That was my ethos and I stuck to it. I never buy a guitar because its fashionable, same with amps.

What do you feel you're missing? Inspiration? Tone? Functionality?

The LC15 is an alright amp, but if you feel you want to get a little more into it maybe you could save up for a proper tone monster like a Hayden or a Cornford.

They are designed for recording and practice, the antithesis of the marshall and cabs which is for gigging really.

Sounds to me that a good amp and a good guitar is all you need. After that playing for fun becomes more fun I reckon.

that's better than me, I dont have time for a relationship due to the sheer amount of guitar prcticing that I do. maybe I'm working too hard??? oh well, it's all fun I suppose.

I know what you're missing out on, play live! that's if you dont already, there's nothing better than standing on stage knowing that you can dominate the entire audience and burn the front row with the filthy stench of rock guitar. I love it!

On the subject of Cornford, I just found this on youtube, sounds really good to me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCsdH7Rjnqc

I remember seeing Jamie Humphries live last year at music live, playing some kinda cornford, it sounded perfect.
