Rebel Yell Set in a MMan Axis.

Well just received them today and really fitted them in 20 minutes ago. Just did a very quick take direct through the Tonelab.
At a first impression the p-ups are quite trebly, but hell, what I was able to squeeze out of them, awrsome sustain too ... can't wait to play them through the cranked Bogner.

Sounds nice and crunchy to me :D Really like the sound of that Tonelab.

Just played for about 30 minutes through the Shiva ... OMG this is awesome! They are really really great if you want crazy sounds without having actually a metal pickup. The combination of Axis and RYs is indeed a winner combination!

I'll do some clips the coming days that will do the pickups justice, the TLab makes em all sound too similar ...

Thanks guys, though I feel a bit bad as this was a no preparation no effort recording. But it's maybe the spontaneous feel that does the trick.

I went for Zebra reverse uncovered, exactly like the original DiMarzios.

There's one thing I still need to sort out, is that the screws of the outer coils are a bit long in the back. What do you guys think, do I need to cut them shorter or should I screw them out a bit so they get shorter on the pickup bottom?

The issue is because the pups are screwed directly into the body of the axis and at the moment they're not 100% parallel to the body.

Any tips welcome.

If it was my guitar, I'd rout a little trough in the body under the polepiece screws - or even drill six little holes for the ends of the screws to sit in.

If you raise the polepieces it's going to make the tone a little unbalanced in favour of the screw coils, and I'd have thought cutting the screws short would also have some effect on the tone.

Not sure. I raised them a bit yesterday (just one turn or so) and it looks better now. I hesitate to dig into the wood on the Axis, as I wanna reserve the possibility to put it back in original state (you never know).

Will post pics later to illustrate the thing a bit.
