What would you change about this sound?
« on: September 06, 2006, 03:34:32 PM »
Ok, so these songs weren't recorded using BK's, they were recorded using a Gibson SG with 498T, through a peavey 5150 II into 5150 cab

Just wanted to know what people thought of the tone?

I'm off into the Studio on Saturday to do the long process of recording an album (10 tracks), this time loaded with a Rebel Yell, and a mesa cab, so the tone can only get better really

Surely you should be asking youself what YOU think of the tone, everyone elses opinion isn't necessarily what you will like.

the tone is WAY too scooped! i hate it. You need to dial in loads more mids; it sounds hollow and muddy. The rebel yell should help with that! may i also suggest a Nailbomb
LOVING the Mules!

Yeah i thought that looking back at it now, although i wouldn't say i hated it, haha!

Even with the same settings, the RY and mesa cab give it alot more of a middy sound, loads clearer and more diffined! I even dial in extra mid at the moment. Around 1 oclock instead of 10 oclock.

I'll post some new clips as soon as we have some rough mixes down :)

Just finished 3 guitar tracks!

It's sounding amazing! So much better and balanced than last time.

Bass - 5, Mid - 5, Treble - 5

The Rebel Yell is really shining through

sounds pretty professional, but too much gain, bass and treble for my taste - this resonance/presence pair on the 5150 is kinda dangerous.

And yes, the 498Ts aren't the most toneful pickups indeed.

But hey, it's all a matter of taste. Which tone are you aiming for?

There is less gain on the new recording, i have it on 5 too. Everything on my lead channel basically faces the sky, except my volume which is on full!!!

It's so lovely and smooth, big and warm! I can't express how perfect i think it is!

Can't wait to post some clips

Finished all the guitar tracks today, 30 tracks of guitar for 10 tracks, my fingers are raw!

I liked the clips you got with the stock pups from the SG.  Its muddy but the RY will fix that up.
I popped out my stock pups from the sg because they were not defined as well.
The WARPIG fixed that...lol
